Poem: To be small

what is it
to be small?

to duck down,
hands clenched
trying to fit
into, behind, between

silent
hidden
unnoticed
unrealized

literal:
if I am small,
I am not tall,
I am not large

figurative:
when I am small,
I am not reaching or
showing
my potential

take that ruler away
I’m not yours to measure
